Year 2 Writing

Hello everyone, Today, we are going to be doing our story writing. This video will probably be a bit longer than normal, so make sure to take a break in the middle if you are losing concentration or finding it tough. I am going to try and make it like we are in class doing writing together so remember to give yourselves about twenty to thirty minutes to do the writing, please don't spend hours and hours doing the writing because remember we want quality not quantity. First, let's get all things we will need for today's lesson. You will need the Story Map Parts 1,2, and 3, the Success Criteria and you will need the word list. We all know what full stops are - They come at the end of sentence to show us when it is finished. Sometimes we forget how important they are. Hello everyone! Today we are learning about something that is quite simple but easy to forget: Capital letters. Before we start you will need your home learning books and a pencil, so grab those now. Hello again! Today, we are going to learn about a different type of apostrophe. These apostrophes don't show us where someone owns something and they can't be confused for plurals. Did you spot them in that last sentence? Pause the video on the next screen to see if you can spot them. Of course, we are talking about contractions. To contract means to make smaller, we use them to put two words together and make them smaller. Here are some of the phrases you can turn into contractions. We use an apostrophe of possession when we want to show that something belongs to someone. For example; we might say Aynie's homework, Ammar's learning or Sarah's effort. We simply put an apostrophe after the owner and then add an s. For your first challenge, think of something you know that belongs to someone you know and write a phrase using an apostrophe of possession. Hello everyone, I hope you've had some fun during the school holidays and that you stayed safe. Today, we are going to learn about indefinite articles. It sounds tricky but it's actually just the proper name for something you already know a and an. These are called indefinite articles because the noun they are related to is not specific. If I ask you to get a pencil, it doesn't matter which pencil you get. Just like if I ask you to get a piece of paper, it really doesn't matter which one. Most of the time we can use a as our indefinite article. In fact, any word that starts with a consonant or consonant sound can have a as its indefinite article. Just a reminder, the consonants are B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, Q, R, S, T, V, W, X, Y, Z. Sometimes we use an as our indefinite article. Hello everyone, Today we are going to work on another type of conjunction: conditional conjunctions. Conditional conjunctions are used to show the times when or if something will happen. These are the conditions. In a sentence we start with a piece of information I like playing football  followed by the conditions for that piece of information to be true when it is raining . In that sentence the piece of information is only true when we give it with the matching piece of information. Hello everyone, Yesterday we looked at co-ordinating conjunctions and today we are going to look at subordinating conjunctions. I know subordinating conjunctions sounds like a tricky term but it's actually something we are quite familiar with; using because and so . We use subordinating conjunctions when we have a main part of the sentence and another part that helps make the main part clear. Normally it's when we have a part of sentence that makes sense on its own,  I like football  and another part that explains  because it is exciting . Hello everyone, Today we are going to have a look at co-ordinating   conjunctions . It sounds like it could be tough and  challenging but it's actually quite simple. In fact, I used two co-ordinating   conjunctions in that last sentence. Did you spot them? They were and and but . And  is quite simple. We use it in a sentence when we need to join two ideas together that are linked. They are normally about the same subject. I like football and baseball.
