Conditional Conjunctions
Hello everyone,
Today we are going to work on another type of conjunction: conditional conjunctions.
Conditional conjunctions are used to show the times when or if something will happen. These are the conditions. In a sentence we start with a piece of information I like playing football followed by the conditions for that piece of information to be true when it is raining. In that sentence the piece of information is only true when we give it with the matching piece of information.
For you first challenge, I have started some sentences for you that you can finish off with a conditional conjunction. The first one is done for you. As always, feel free to email your work to the school email (yr2@harrow.grange.sch.uk) or submit via class charts.
I go to school when it is a weekday.
I like going to the beach when
You have to wait for the green man when
I like fruit when
You must wash your hands when
You can also use if as a conditional conjunction. We would normally use when when there is a clear time, or time based condition in our sentence when it is Tuesday, when it is the holidays. We normally use if if the conditions are not time based if they have jam inside, if I fall over. For example, I only like doughnuts is the piece of information and if they have jam inside is the conditions. if the condition was when they have jam inside, I'd have to stop eating the doughnut as soon as I'd eaten the jam. What a waste of doughnut!
For you second challenge, try finishing these sentences using if as a conditional conjunction. The first one is done for you. Remember, if is used when the conditions are not based on time or a timed event.
I like crisps if they are salt and vinegar flavour.
I like watching movies if
I catch the bus if
I feel happy if
I don't like to turn the lights off if
Have fun writing your sentences and remember to send them to the school email (yr2@grange.harrow.sch.uk) or submit them via class charts.
Have a great day everyone and stay safe!
Mr D.
