Apostrophes of Possession
Hello everyone,
First of all, I'd like to say well done to Sarah, Ammar and Aynie for all the amazing work they've been doing!
Today, we are going to learn about apostrophes of possession. We use an apostrophe of possession when we want to show that something belongs to someone. For example; we might say Aynie's homework, Ammar's learning or Sarah's effort. We simply put an apostrophe after the owner and then add an s.
For your first challenge, think of something you know that belongs to someone you know and write a phrase using an apostrophe of possession. Here are some examples;
CatMonkey's bowl
Messi's boots
Dragon's fire
Sometimes, we can confuse apostrophes of possession and plurals. Remember: Plurals are when you have more than one of a noun and you never add an apostrophe to show more than one of a noun.
For your second challenge; I've written some sentences. I would like you to add the apostrophe of possession to each sentence. Don't add an apostrophe to the plural nouns. The first one is done for you.
I flew in Santa's sleigh.
I always plant an apples seeds.
Throw a fireball at Bowsers shell.
Foxes steal peoples rubbish.
As always you can send your work to the school email address (yr2@grange.harrow.sch.uk) or submit via class charts.
